Myths Debunked by Meagan Rodriguez - Part 3

Meagan Rodriguez is a Certified Personal Trainer and the CEO/President of Nu-U Fitness. Meagan has provided The MOG BLOG a nine part series on myths verses the truth about fitness.

Myth: If women train with weights, they will get bigger muscles like men.
Truth: Weight/resistance training helps women build long lean muscle not bulky muscle.

When women train with weights they completely change the way their bodies look. They don’t get bulky but leaner. If only women can understand that if they took the fat on their hips and thighs and replaced it with the same weight in muscle, then their thighs would be much smaller. This is because fat takes up 5 times as much space as muscle. Most of the time women don’t know that their body composition determines how they look; by building lean muscle you replace the fat on your body incredibly transforming your body into a leaner, more beautiful, healthy body. Women need to be more concerned about not having enough muscle on their bodies to maintain health. Remember strong muscles lead to strong bones; strong bones lead to NO OSTEOPOROSUS!

Myths Debunked by Meagan Rodriguez - Part 2

Meagan Rodriguez is a Certified Personal Trainer and the CEO/President of Nu-U Fitness. Meagan has provided The MOG BLOG a nine part series on myths verses the truth about fitness.

Myth: When you exercise it doesn’t matter what you eat.
Truth: When you exercise, it matters even more what you eat!

Like I said in Part 1, when you exercise, it matters even more what you eat. If you start working out and aren’t feeding your body the correct nutrients then you are exercising a nutrient-deficient body; which makes you worse off than a sedentary person eating the same things as you. You are also making your body more nutrient deficient the longer you continue to not give your body the proper nutrition and working out. It is simple, physically active people need more nutrients than sedentary people. I didn’t realize how important this was until I realized that even though I was working out to get the body I wanted I wasn’t feeding it properly, therefore I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted. So many people are victims of this myth, I was one of them for a long time and now I know better. This part is simple as well, without optimum levels of the nutrients your body needs, you are not going to get the results you are looking for. You have to accept the fact that optimal nutrition is just as important as exercise and then guess what… you will be one step closer to accomplishing your goal in a healthy manner.

The MOG Blog would like to welcome Nerissa, an Image Consultant and the creator of http://www.stylishadvice.com/. Today we will showcase her bio. Look for more information from Nerissa on stylish advice to get your ready for the Miss Oklahoma Galaxy Pageant!

Hello, my name is Nerissa and I am the founder of Stylish Advice. I have spent over ten years in the field of administration and over five working for the vice president for one of the largest companies in Canada. Charity events, holiday galas, international clients... these tasks demand that I look my best every day. Stylish Advice began two years ago as an e-mail newsletter for friends, family and co-workers who wanted my insider "secrets" of looking good on a budget, shopping for clothes efficiently, and surfing the ever-changing trends of hair and makeup. Then I received a request from a woman who had just turned 30 and was ready to take her closet from party-girl to sophisticate. Word of her makeover spread quickly and I was approached again and again by more and more people for fashion consultations. In response to the demand, I created Stylish Advice. After networking with a team of industry professionals (a hair stylist, an esthetician, a fashion consultant, and a supplier or organic/ethical beauty products), test driving concepts, and doing months of market research, I recently launched Stylish Advice online.

Stylish Advice is a fresh, new and exciting concept in the world of fashion and beauty. Thanks to the World Wide Web, I can connect with women from all over North America. Services for individuals include Wardrobe Makeovers, Shopping for Your Body Type lessons, and monthly memberships. Membership entitles clients to e-mail bulletins, newsletter alerts, and access to the member’s only section of the website and forum. I meet local clients for consultations or provide phone and e-mail support for clients outside of my home based area. Typical questions from range from, "what's trendy for eye makeup this winter?" to "please suggest an entirely new wardrobe." I even had a client snap a picture of herself in a dressing room mirror and e-mail it from her phone so I could advise her on an outfit before she left the store! Services for companies include consultation, networking, fashion show coordination, and promotional writing.

I can connect with women of all shapes, sizes because I have been, well, many different shapes and sizes over the years! I know how frustrating it is to try product after product and read article after article as you try to find what works for you. Stylish Advice is designed to cut through the confusion and help you look like the amazing woman that I know you are. Check us out today at http://www.stylishadvice.com/.

Myths Debunked by Meagan Rodriguez - Part 1

Meagan Rodriguez is a Certified Personal Trainer and the CEO/President of Nu-U Fitness. Meagan has provided The MOG BLOG a nine part series on myths verses the truth about fitness.

Most every health professionals say that all you have to do is eat right and exercise. To most people that sounds easy but with so many false statements and myths about dieting and exercising it becomes complicated and frustrating trying to figure out what is correct and what is not. So I want to clear from your mind all that you have heard from exercise videos, dozens of fitness magazines, and hundreds of books. I want you to realize that all you really get from them are junk heaps of false conclusions, half-baked exercises, contradictions and nutrition theories that generate so much confusion and uncertainty.

Myth: Cardiovascular training is better for losing weight than weight training.
Truth: To make over your body, you MUST train with weights.

Getting a cardio work out is better than doing nothing but to really change your physique you need to weight train. When you weight train you increase your metabolic rate (the rate at which your body burns fat). Also, when you gain muscle it takes more energy to maintain your muscle than it does fat; fat just sits there. Because of that, weight training is even better than aerobic exercise for people that want to lose fat. When you weight train you raise the rate at which your body uses energy.

If you start up a cardiovascular training regimen your results will not be the most beneficial if you do not add weight training into it. You may lose weight but your shape will not change. When you weight train you actually change your shape, not just becoming a skinnier version of your self in the past. If you want a body transformation, weight training adding in cardio training is the best way to go.

Nu-U Fitness

The MOG Blog would like to welcome Meagan Rodriguez, a Certified Personal Trainer and the CEO/President of Nu-U Fitness. Today we will showcase her bio. Look for more information from Meagan on how to create a Nu-U!

I am a Certified Personal Trainer through National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association (NESTA). Despite my youth, I have spent half a decade in the fitness career field. I am a current student at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, pursuing a degree in Sports Management.

I have extensive experience in Pilates instruction, nutrition and supplementation, group exercise as well as one-on-one personal training for fat loss and muscle gain. I understand and focus on the importance of fitness at any age, and I also specialize in training seniors (60+) for increased lean body mass, fat loss, flexibility, circulation, bone strength, mobility and endurance.

I am an accomplished World Natural Sports Organization Fitness Model, promotional model, former competitive swimmer and spent most of my teen years as a professional horse trainer. I am involved in health initiatives locally as an active committee member for the San Antonio Diabetes Committee, a passion that emerged from the recent diagnosis of my father's Type II Diabetes. I am also creating the pilot progressive fitness program for the children of Harlendale ISD so that they may excel in the Texas state required FitGram Test. I am also a spokes person for Go Girl Go of the San Antonio Women’s Sports Foundation and speak on body image.

I especially want to help girls and women to develop a positive body image and to give correct information on nutrition and physical fitness that is easy to apply and understand. Unfortunately, this world has a distorted view of being healthy and beautiful; normally those don’t go hand in hand. This brings me to wanting to shed light on eating disorders, because it is a taboo subject more so now than ever. I want to reach out to those that are suffering from eating disorders because I have gone through one myself and have recovered from bulimia. When I say eating disorders I mean anorexia, bulimia, and over eating, because over eating and being obese is an eating disorder as well as the others commonly associated with that label.

I also take interest in psychomotor development and inclusion of physical activity within society. I want to help bridge the gap of including people with disabilities into “normalcy” as far as physical activity is concerned. I feel that past views have kept certain individuals from really reaching their true potential in any physical activity.
But most of all I hope to help and inspire any one that I come in contact with to achieve a better, “Nu’er” them!
